# Philipp Fleischmann shows a film sculpture at Salzburger Kunstverein

Salzburger Kunstverein is exhibiting [a commissioned film sculpture created by artist Philipp Fleischmann](https://salzburger-kunstverein.at/philippfleischmann%5Fen?ref=kinoki.co). Fleischmann is a visual artist who primarily utilizes analog film to create unique filmic sculptures which transcend the natural limits of the medium. Titled *Flashes of Resilience*, the sculpture consists of a 16mm filmstrip that is 735cm long. 

With this work, [Fleischmann seeks to break the traditional notion of film inscription](https://www.labiennaledelyon.com/en/biennale/16e-biennale-dart-contemporain-2022/manifesto-of-fragility/philipp-fleischmann-film-sculpture-3-2022?ref=kinoki.co) which emphasizes the dynamic and perpetually fluctuating nature of the images. The flashes emitted by the light passing through the film are an integral part of the narrative and visual aspects of this piece, creating a sense of intensity and disruption. Fleischmann’s artistic practice often emphasizes the undefined and the obscured through the lens of queer abstraction.

Philipp Fleischmann is [a Vienna-based artist who works with film to question the internal logic and mechanisms of institutions](https://www.viennale.at/en/guest/philipp-fleischmann?ref=kinoki.co). In 2014 he began working as Artistic Director of the School for Independent Film Friedl Kubelka in Vienna.
