The exhibition is organized by Fondazione In Between Art Film and presented at Complesso dell'Ospedaletto.
The film, titled I Am Hymns of the New Temples, was a commission from the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. Shawky's exhibition is part of the Venice Biennale.
The British-Nigerian artist is making her debut in Venice with the video Machine Boys, about motorcycle taxi drivers in Lagos. Ashadu previously won the Prize of the Bötterstraße in Bremen in 2022.
The nine-part series is titled Self-Portrait as a Coffee Pot. The installation, curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, opens in April 2024 within the framework of the Venice Biennale.
The film screenings and the panel discussions at this mini-festival within the Biennale Architettura 2023 will reveal the tensions between space, buildings, moving images and presentations.
