Frieze Film is teaming up with Busan Biennale for an off-site moving image programme with Busan Biennale x Frieze Film Seoul 2026. Conceived as a means of extending its audience reach into the Korean capital during Frieze Week, the five-day event binds together the two major organizations through moving image art. The event's curatorial theme ‘Dissident Chorus’ shifts the focus away from a purely visual experience to one incorporating sound, movement, performance, and collective assembly.

Frieze Film has employed Amal Khalaf and Evelyn Simons to recontextualize “film” into “resonant, physical spaces where sound, live action, and choreography” converge. The curatorial selection showcases works by international and local artists whose practice spans film, performance, and sound to provide audiences with a novel perspective on the importance that the moving image has achieved in the contemporary art world.

Frieze Film is utilizing the exhibition space at SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation for this presentation. Selected artists include Alison Nguyen, Umi Ishihara, Natasha Tontey, and Luiz Roque.

Taken in conjunction with the simultaneous collaboration that Frieze Film has with Kiaf SEOUL, moving image art has been given a prominent position in a bold move by Frieze that differs from the curatorial paradigms and programmatic policies of other fairs.
